Is Lexington Law A Scam?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) lists the following warning signs of a credit repair service:

  1. Request fees in advance
Lexington Law does not charge you in advance for any legal services. They charge you a retainer fee 15 days after they begin and then charge you on a monthly basis for work previously performed.
  2. Don't disclose your rights
Every consumer has the right to attempt credit repair on their own. Lexington Law offers its affordable legal services to those consumers who prefer having legal professionals help them repair their credit.
  3. Advocate "new" identities
It is illegal to create a "new" identity by applying for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) to replace your Social Security Number. File segregation is a serious crime that can result in fines or imprisonment.
  4. Misrepresent their expertise
Claiming to have more years of experience than actually worked.  The number some companies report often represent the combined years of attorney experience, not the actual length of time that the firm has been practicing. By contrast, Lexington Law has been practicing credit report repair since 1991, not just a law firm.
  5. Imply FTC endorsement
The Federal Trade Commission does not endorse any company. If a credit repair organization implies FTC endorsement, they should not be trusted.
